I was a Chaplain and in the health-care field for nearly twenty years with specialties in HIV/AIDS, hospice,
and grief care. I'm now focused on writing and teaching.

Staff Chaplain and later Relief Chaplain; grief group facilitator.
7/00-1/02 Relief Chaplain, St. Francis Medical Center, Santa Barbara
3/95-12/99 Chaplain, AIDS Care, Ventura County
Developed a chaplaincy program and a mental health outreach program for this County- wide social service AIDS agency.
1994-95 Chaplaincy Internship, St. John's Regional Medical Center, Oxnard.
Primarily worked in NICU, post-partum care and troubled pregnancies.
Facilitated a support group for family members of persons with AIDS.
1991-93 Chaplaincy Internship, UCLA Medical Center.
Was on-call Chaplain every other weekend. Had a regular assignment in the NICU and on
the Medical/Surgery floor.
Chaplain Immunology Clinic, Ventura County Medical Center.
Created a Chaplaincy position as part of a multi-disciplinary staff for this weekly clinic.
Wrote HIV\AIDS Ministry: A Practical Guide for Pastors for United Methodist Health and
Welfare Ministries, published 1993.
3/90-5/91 Assistant Program Coordinator, AIDS Research & Education Project,
California State University, Long Beach. Developed and ran a continuing education program for physicians in Long Beach on HIV/AIDS under an NIMH grant.
1989-1990 Wrote book, AIDS and the Sleeping Church, published 1995 by Eerdmans.

2003-2005 Stephen Leader, coordinated training and continuing education for Stephen Ministers at
First United Methodist Church, Ventura.
2001/02 Trained Volunteers, Livingston Hospice, including “Care of Others,
Care of Self,” and an innovative training for spiritual care for Alzheimer’s patients.
2001 "Spiritual Support," volunteer training for Santa Clara Hospice, 2001.
6/99-2/00 Supervisor for a Chaplain Intern for AIDS Care, Ventura. The intern
had completed seminary and was in CPE.

Most of my course work was at UCLA and UC Riverside. I received my BA from Immaculate Heart College in Journalism. In 1996 I was honored to be named Alumna of the Year. Following four units of Clinical Pastoral Education, I took a New Testament course at San Francisco Theological Seminary.
